Rewarding Teachers and Staff, Educating Students

One of the Foundation's primary reasons for being is to provide grants to assist exceptional educators in their teaching.

The possibilities of the types of educational experiences through grants from The Blackwell Public School Foundation are only limited by the imagination of the teachers who develop them and apply.

Past grants have funded projects, materials and experiences including:

Advanced Equipment in the Sciences
Computer Programs in Specialized Areas
Seminars for Students
Specialized Textbooks
Audio-Visual Aids
Guest Speakers

How the Grant Process Works

Each school year, Spring and Fall Grant Rounds are held. Faculty and Staff apply for grants through the Principals of their respective school. Once the grant applications are completed, they are reviewed and awarded by the Allocations Committee of The Blackwell Public School Foundation. The number of grants are funded based on their merits and the funds available for that Grant Round.

I want to formally thank you for the money I received this spring. The new table and chairs look great! I can’t wait until my students see them.

This summer I spent some of my time assembling the table and chairs. To protect the tops of the tables, I poured epoxy on them. The epoxy makes the wood grain pop. I can’t say it enough, they are beautiful!!

If you find yourself at the middle school, stick your head in and see how they look. I would love to show them off.

Past Grant Recipients

Your generous contributions are at work everyday in the Blackwell Public Schools. In March there was an excellent example of the kinds of opportunities grants offer students. Junior and senior high school students gathered for a presentation by two of the men whose story was portrayed in Disney’s McFarland USA, staring Kevin Costner.

All of the students had seen the movie at their schools before the presentation. The movie tells the story of a cross country team in a small California agricultural town. It’s theme is that achievement is possible if students dream…and if they have mentors who believe in them. Two of the runners, now educators themselves, were there in person to talk to the students and answer their questions.

The students were respectful and asked excellent questions. Making preparations like this possible is a wonderful collaboration between all those hundreds of BHS graduates who continue to fund so many special school projects. This grant was written by teacher Lynne Field. Teachers may apply for grants twice a school year.
